Description:
Oregano means "joy of the mountain" and is derived from the Greek oras,
meaning "mountains," and ganos, meaning "joy".
In Greek mythology, Aphrodite created oregano as a symbol of happiness.
Greeks and Romans used it mainly as a disinfecting and
conserving
perfume; techniques they also diffused in the rest of Europe.
Cultivation:
Oregano originates from the Mediterranean regions, but today it is
cultivated in many countries. In France, it is harvested in June and in August.

The best flavor associations for oregano are mozzarella, tomatoes, eggs,
white wine, crème and garlic.
Uses:
We find oregano predominantly in Italian cuisine, in pizzas, and pastas,
it
is also known as the "pizza" herb. Add oregano to omelets, frittatas
and quiches, or use in dishes in combination with garlic, thyme,
parsley and
olive oil to spice them up.
